Portrait of Life

Her Life, Love and Legacy

Clendell Mims Mallory, the mother of eight children, was born on June 23,1930, in Red River County to the late Willie Marshall White and Moran Mims. During her early childhood, at age 12, she professed Christ and united with Martin Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Clarksville, Texas under the leadership of the late Reverend Killebrew.

Clendell continued her commitment to the Lord with Wyatt Memorial United Methodist Church, Amarillo, Texas for over 50 years. Wyatt Memorial later merged with Community of Grace United Methodist Church, Amarillo, Texas. For over 15 years, while an active member at Grace UMC, she also attended Sunday School at Carter Chapel Primitive Baptist.Church. She later attended services at Carter Chapel every Sunday because of her love for Reverend Herman Moore and his wife, Mary.

At the time of her death, Clendell was an active member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Texarkana, Texas. She was a member of the APEC Sunday School Class, Noon-time Bible Study, and the Mission Ministry.

Clendell’s church and civic work expanded many years and highlighted her commitment to serving others. While in Amarillo, she served for over 25 years as both treasurer of the North Amarillo Presidents Council, and as president of the United Methodist Women. She was also president of Church Women United Evening Group of Amarillo for over 30 years. And a life-time member of the Amarillo Citizen Forum serving her community.

Clendell joined the Grand Court Order of Calanthe Wroten High Plains #145 in 1965 and was an active member until she moved to Texarkana. Despite all her church and civic work, Clendell still found time to travel around the country. She frequently visited her children in St. Louis, Mo; Philadelphia, PA, Dallas and Texarkana, Texas; and in 2012 fulfilled a dream of hers by vacationing in New York City. She loved her adventures to Jamaica and felt empowered by her road trip throughout “The South.”
